Dear Olympic Supporters,
Going to the Olympic or Paralympic Games is the highest honour for any athlete who plays an Olympic or Paralympic sport. I know from my own experience of competing at two Olympic Games, that the team going out to Beijing will be boosted and inspired by the knowledge that people back home in Yorkshire are 100% behind them.
The athletes featured on this website have two things in common: They are representing Great Britain in the Olympic Games or the Paralympic Games in Beijing; and they have a strong bond with Yorkshire: either through having lived, trained or been born here.
Many have received services from my team at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield; or based themselves at other world class training facilities in the region, like Leeds Met Carnegie. Others have used the region’s natural environment for their training and preparation.
Their total dedication to being the best in their sport is inspirational. Each one of them makes Yorkshire great and we are proud of them.
